Finding the perfect yakiniku spot can be a challenge, especially when you’re craving an all-you-can-eat feast outside of Tokyo. Last week, my travels brought me to Nagano Station. While Nagano is a bustling city with almost everything you could need right by the station, I struggled to find a spot that offered an all-you-can-eat service to satisfy my massive craving for savory beef tongue (切りタン塩).
However, we managed to find a “keeper” that came to the rescue without breaking the bank: Osaka Yakiniku・Horumon Futago (Nagano Branch). In this post, I’m sharing our flavorful experience and why this should be your go-to spot in Nagano!
About Yakiniku Hormone Futago (大阪焼肉・ホルモンふたご)
Founded by twin brothers (hence the name “Futago,” which means “twins” in Japanese), this restaurant chain has taken the yakiniku world by storm. Originating from the food mecca of Osaka, Futago is famous for its “B-kyu Gurume” (B-class gourmet) philosophy—providing high-quality meat, especially horumon (offal) and Wagyu, in a fun, unpretentious environment. Their claim to fame is the “Hamideru Kalbi,” a cut of beef so large it literally spills off the edges of the grill!
The Nagano Branch
Located just a short walk from the station, the Nagano branch is a hidden gem for meat lovers. Even though this location doesn’t offer an all-you-can-eat (tabehoudai) option, it stands out from other local yakiniku restaurants because of its incredibly affordable prices. You can order a wide variety of high-grade cuts a la carte and still walk away feeling full without a massive bill.

Atmosphere: High-Energy & Nostalgic
The vibe at Futago Nagano is electric! It captures that classic Showa-era Japanese tavern feel—bustling, smoky, and full of life. The seating is cozy and functional, featuring individual desktop gas grills with heavy-duty ventilation hoods overhead.

It’s the kind of place where you don’t have to worry about being formal. The walls are decorated with bold Japanese signage and tempting food photos, creating a warm, social ambiance that’s perfect for a night out with friends or a lively family dinner.
What’s on the Menu?

The menu is a meat-lover’s dream, printed with helpful English translations and “TONG marks” to indicate which meats the staff will grill for you.
- Signatures: The famous “Hamideru” Kalbi (reservation required!) and the “Hamidetai” Outside Skirt.
- Wagyu & Beef: Thick-cut Tongue, Wagyu Kalbi, and the decadent Beef Loin with Garlic Butter Sauce.
- Horumon: Since it’s in the name, they offer a massive variety of offal, including their “Futago Assorted Platter.”
- Unique Sides: From Uni on Wagyu to their “White Ramen” made with potato noodles, the variety is impressive.
Food Review: Our Flavorful Feast

We didn’t hold back! We ordered:
- Salted Beef Tongue: Exactly what I yearned for—salty, snappy, and delicious.
- Skirt Steak & Wagyu Top Grade Lean Meat: Two sets of each!
- Thickly Sliced Marbled Wagyu: Two pieces of pure melt-in-your-mouth heaven.
- Beef Loin with Garlic Butter Sauce: This was up to the hype! The rich butter and garlic combo with the seared beef was incredible.
- Sides: A bowl of Gomashio Cabbage (so stunning we ordered two more bowls!), Buttered Corn, and FUTAGO Spicy Rice.
The Pro Discovery: I found the perfect combination! Take a morsel of the FUTAGO Spicy Rice (mix it all together first, just like a bibimbap!) and pair it with a freshly grilled piece of Wagyu. The spice of the rice cuts through the richness of the meat perfectly.

Note: While every bite of Wagyu was tasty, we noticed a tiny bit of inconsistency in the texture—some pieces were perfectly lean while others from the same batch were a bit chewy, but the flavor remained top-notch.
To top it all off, the restaurant provided a complimentary yogurt drink at the end of the meal. It was the perfect, refreshing palate cleanser after all that savory meat!

Service: A 10/5 Rating!
I don’t usually write a service section, but the team at the Nagano branch deserves a shout-out. The staff were incredibly agile and attentive. They are clearly well-trained; they all spoke English and knew the menu inside and out. They’ll tell you exactly how to eat each cut and what the daily recommendations are. Their hospitality truly elevated the whole dining experience.
Pro Tips for Your Visit
- Reserve Ahead: This place is popular! Don’t be discouraged if you see a sign saying they are fully booked until 8:00 PM.
- The Walk-in Trick: If you really want to eat there, walk in and ask to make a reservation on-site for later that evening. As long as it’s not too close to their 11:00 PM closing time, they are usually very kind and will fit you in.
- Try the Combo: Seriously, do the Spicy Rice + Grilled Meat combo. You won’t regret it!
Final Verdict
If you find yourself in Nagano and the yakiniku cravings hit, skip the hunt for an all-you-can-eat and head straight to Yakiniku Hormone Futago. Between the expert service, the lively atmosphere, and the mouth-watering Wagyu, it’s a high-value dining experience that feels like a celebration. It’s affordable, delicious, and easily one of our favorite finds in the city!
