Since its opening in 2017, Cafe Seoulism in Songpa-gu has become an internet sensation known for its iconic view of the SEOUL sign with the Lotte World Tower in the background. In recent years, the cafe seems to have found a new way to attract more visitors by offering an eye-catching set of beverages and garnishing the city’s name sign with seasonal pieces of decoration.
For this year’s spring season, Seoulism managed to come up with the prettiest line of drinks and desserts other than the cherry blossom latte which was released last year. And if you are planning to visit the cafe from this month onwards, there are updates and things to keep in mind:
Seoulism is no longer operated in the morning
Seoulism operating hours have just recently been altered to 2pm-10pm, according to their official instagram. However, this can likely be a temporary matter so always check the page before visiting.
Spring theme availability
There hasn’t been a time table properly made for when the cafe will put up the decoration but sometimes in February, we see instagrammers start posting images of the SEOUL sign being tucked away in a fluff of pink faux cherry blossoms. And later when the weather gets hotter, around the end of May, they’d replace the flowers with a set of summer installation.
Unlike the decoration, the spring-themed beverages and desserts are available in a much shorter period of time. This year they started selling the spring selection from March 4th and it is assumed to be until the end of April. In addition, some of the spring items (e.g. the cherry blossom pudding and chiffon cake) are prepared only in limited numbers.
It is much less crowded now
Although Cafe Seoulism remains a well-known and sought-after destination for its stunning views, somehow it seems to have changes in visitor trends compared to its first few years of operations. Despite my last visit on a Saturday in the afternoon, the time that is considered to be the busiest hour for any hot spots in Seoul, there was no waiting line to the famous rooftop and only a few tables were occupied. Whatever the reason is for the change, with fewer people competing for photo spots or seatings, you will definitely have an easier time taking in the view of Lotte World Tower, exploring the seasonal decorations, and enjoying your beverage or dessert.
Same rules are still applied
While there are things that have been recently updated, some settings are still intact:
- You need to buy something from the menu in order to enter the cafe (1 item/person)
- They don’t accept reservations
- Children under the age of 14 are not allowed due to the safety concerns (the danger while using the rooftop)
- The prices are still on the higher end of the spectrum
There you have it! By keeping these tips in mind, you can make the most out of your visit to Cafe Seoulism and enjoy all that this popular Seoul cafe has to offer.
[Last Update: June 12, 2023] Seoulism is no longer run as a café!
