Spring in Seoul this year (2026) has been, quite frankly, a little surreal. We haven’t even officially hit April, yet the city is already draped in white and pink. It’s strange—prominent cherry blossom spots reached full bloom so early this year, even beating out the usual early bloomers like Busan and Jeju!
Among the neighborhoods reaching their peak this week, the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail (near Daeheung Station) was calling my name. I knew I couldn’t miss the chance to enjoy this fleeting moment, but I wanted a different perspective. Instead of walking through the crowds on the path, I decided to view the “cherry blossom road” from above. My destination? The rooftop of Cafe SUMIF.
In this post, I’m sharing my firsthand experience and some tips to help you catch this magic before the petals fall.
About Cafe SUMIF (썸이프)
Located just a stone’s throw from the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail, Cafe SUMIF is a charming neighborhood gem that feels like a secret hideaway. Known for its cozy, minimalist aesthetic and pet-friendly atmosphere, it has quickly become a favorite for those who want to escape the more frantic tourist hubs of Hongdae while still enjoying top-tier views. It’s a multi-level space that balances the intimacy of a local cafe with one of the most stunning “living views” in the city.
The Main Attraction: Why It’s a Spring-Worthy Spot
The layout of Cafe SUMIF is what makes it so special. It consists of a tiny, charming table on the first-floor outdoor terrace, a lovely and cozy indoor space on the second floor, and a relaxing rooftop.

Because every floor faces the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail, you are essentially treated to a panoramic wall of blossoms. The view is nothing short of dreamy. On the second floor, the trees feel like they are peering into the room with you, while the rooftop offers a sense of total immersion. It’s the kind of place where you can truly feel the change of seasons just by looking out the window.
Best Seating Areas for the Perfect Shot
While you can indulge in the spring magic from almost any corner of the cafe, these are my personal recommendations for those looking to snap a beautiful memory:
1. The Window Seat Facing Seohodam Studio (서호담)
This particular spot acts like a living picture frame. The unique top-hinged window opens upward, creating a clean, rectangular view that captures the streetscape of Gyeongui Line Forest Trail in its most romantic state.

The Frame Effect: The architectural lines of the window and the warm glow of the hanging Edison bulb create a natural border for the blossoms. It feels less like looking out a window and more like staring at a high-definition gallery piece.
The “Main Street” Story: From here, you get a beautiful sense of depth. You see the cherry blossom trees lining the path toward Seohodam Studio and the urban textures of Seoul layered together.
The Interior Mood: It’s the ideal spot for anyone who wants to sit with a dessert and a coffee to watch the world go by. While the rooftop is for the “wow” factor, this window seat is for the quiet, lingering appreciation of the season.
2. The Rooftop: A Surreal Sanctuary
The rooftop at Cafe SUMIF transforms into a surreal spring sanctuary when the cherry blossoms reach their peak. Nestled right against the treeline, the terrace offers an eye-level view of the blooms that makes you feel as though you are floating within a sea of pale pink petals.
Immersion: Unlike parks where you look up at the canopy, SUMIF’s elevation puts you directly inside the cherry blossom clouds.

Aesthetic Atmosphere: The combination of simple wooden furniture and green turf creates a minimalist vibe that lets nature do the talking.

The “Slow” View: Sitting with a warm latte while watching the wind occasionally send a flurry of petals across the tables is the ultimate way to experience beot-kkot (cherry blossom) season away from the sidewalk crowds.
What’s on the Menu?
The menu here is thoughtfully curated, focusing on rich, cream-topped beverages and seasonal treats. A huge plus for those who are caffeine-sensitive: any coffee drink can be made decaf for an additional 0.7.
Signature Drinks & Desserts
The signature “Spanners” (cream lattes) are the stars here.
- Latte Spanner (6.0KW): A classic, velvety choice.
- Choco Forest Spanner (6.7KW): A beautiful layered drink featuring chocolate and matcha.
- Gelato Croffle (7.5KW): A crispy croffle topped with your choice of Sweet Potato, Matcha, Black Sesame, or Chocolate gelato.
The “Cream” Collection (Ice Only)
If you love thick toppings, try the Matcha, Black Sesame, or Sweet Potato Spanners (6.5). You can even add an espresso shot to the sesame or sweet potato versions for a bit of a kick.
Something for Everyone
Beyond the signatures, they offer classics like Vanilla Lattes (5.5), refreshing Apple Mango Smoothies (6.5), and a unique Handmade Strawberry Matcha Latte (6.8). If you’re coming with a furry friend, don’t forget the Mung-puccino (4.0) so your pet can join the cafe hop!
Getting There
Cafe SUMIF is incredibly easy to access. It is located just 174m from Daeheung Station (Line 6), Exit 3. Once you exit, it’s a short, pleasant walk toward the forest trail.
When to See the Peak
Cherry blossoms in Seoul generally reach their peak from late March to early April. But with this year’s weird early blooms, my visit on March 31st turned out to be absolutely impeccable.

If you are planning a visit, don’t stress too much about hitting the exact date. Even if you arrive a few days before or after the official “peak,” the trail has its own microclimate. These blossoms can usually put on a spectacular show for up to 5 or 6 days, provided there is no heavy rain in the forecast to knock the petals down.
My Insider Tips:
- The Sweet Spot: Aim for the window between late March and early April.
- Don’t Overthink the Data: Check the official Seoul blossom forecasts, but don’t obsess over “full bloom” dates.
- The 80% Rule: Even at 80% bloom, the view from the SUMIF rooftop is stunning. Because you are so close to the branches, the clusters look dense and magical regardless of the official percentage!
Final Verdict: Is Cafe SUMIF Worth the Visit?
Absolutely. Without question.
Cafe SUMIF isn’t just a place to drink coffee. It’s a spring experience that you’ll remember long after the petals have fallen. The combination of the quiet Gyeongui Line Forest Trail, the thoughtful interior, the pet-friendly warmth, and that unreal rooftop view makes it one of the most unique cherry blossom spots in Seoul.
Yes, there are bigger parks. Yes, there are more famous viewpoints. But there’s something deeply special about sitting at eye level with the blossoms, a warm latte in one hand and a croffle in the other, watching the world drift by below. It’s slow. It’s soft. It’s spring the way spring should feel.
So if you find yourself in Seoul during cherry blossom season—especially this strange, early, wonderful season of 2026—do yourself a favor. Take the short walk from Daeheung Station. Climb the stairs to the rooftop. And let the petals fall around you.
