Stumbling across beautiful reels and images on Instagram has never failed to trigger my itchy feet into visiting new places. This time, it hit me with a stunning scenic footage of what appears to be a cafe’s terrace situated right in front of a majestic waterfall. It was hard to believe that such a place could exist in a busy and bustling city like Seoul. In this post, I am taking you on an adventure to the discovery of this gem named ‘Cafe Pokpo.’ Let’s dive in and explore what this spot has to offer, along with some travel tips to make your visit truly unforgettable!
A Paradise on the Bank of Hongjecheon:
Opened late in 2022, Cafe Pokpo (카페 폭포) or ‘Cafe Waterfall’ quickly climbed to the top of the list of must-visit coffee places in the Seodaemun neighborhood, and it’s not hard to see why. The credit goes to the cafe’s prime location and the breathtaking view it offers.
Cafe Pokpo is strategically positioned on the bank of Hongjecheon, the first tributary of the Han River. The cafe is constructed at what can only be described as the most beautiful part – on higher ground along the Seodaemun walking trails, just before the Hongjecheon Waterfall. While the waterfall itself is artificial, the ambiance it creates is utterly relaxing and soothing.

Awe-Inspiring Tips for Cafe Pokpo Visitors:
Timing Matters: The cafe has two indoor sections that fill up quickly on hot days. If you prefer an air-conditioned environment, it’s best to visit early in the morning or during weekdays to secure indoor seating options.
Embrace the Outdoors: Cafe Pokpo has plenty of outdoor seating, allowing visitors to soak in the stunning views and get closer to the waterfall’s mesmerizing beauty.
The Best Perspective: For the most spectacular view of the waterfall and its surroundings, I highly recommend sitting in the area on top of the main indoor chamber. This vantage point offers a higher and wider perspective that will surely leave you in awe.
Scheduled Break Time: Keep in mind that the cafe takes an unscheduled break from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. If you find yourself craving a cup of coffee during this time, fret not. There is an Angelinus Coffee chain located nearby to satisfy your caffeine needs.
Explore Beyond the Waterfall: While Cafe Pokpo and the waterfall itself are the main attractions, don’t forget to take a leisurely stroll along the stream. There’s more to discover and enjoy than just the waterfall!
Cherry Blossom Wonderland: If you happen to visit in April, make sure to swing by Yeonhee Forest (연희숲속쉼터), located just behind the waterfall. It boasts one of the biggest cherry blossom clusters in the entire city, creating a dreamy and enchanting atmosphere.
