Gangnam Foodie Guide: Bas Burger Yeoksam Branch (바스버거 역삼점)

Opened its first joint in Gwanghwamun, Seoul in 2015, Bas Burger (바스버거) now has up to ten branches operating throughout the city. And among the ten locations, Yeoksam Branch (역삼점) is where I always swing by after work whenever I feel like having a real burger fix.

I first visited the branch simply out of curiosity. For many years that I had been venturing up and down Teheran-ro 26-gil (테헤란로 26길), the road where the joint is perched on, and the mouth watery aroma wafting out of its doors always made my head turn.

    Location & Atmosphere

Bas Burger Yeoksam Branch is situated very close to Yeoksam Station of Seoul Subway Line 2, only one stop away from Gangnam Station. It takes less than 2 minutes to walk from the station’s exit 3. And a level underneath Asher boutique store is where you will find the restaurant. In order to get inside, you have to go a little further down the hill to see that the entrance is hidden by a velvet parking space.

Upon entering you will feel as if you are stepping into a massive, cozy dining room, which is filled with a warm and welcoming aesthetic with industrial influences. The seating area seems to have a capacity of 60 pax at one time making it a suitable option for a large group of companies, in which a burger joint in Seoul can hardly provide.

In addition to their lovely interior design, groovy jazz music is often heard playing in the background – which I find complimenting the house’s casual, hip and rustic ambiance very well.

    What’s on the Menu?

Bas Burger joint uses patty made from certified and high-quality American beef (USDA Choice Prime) for their handmade beef burger options: Bas (바스버거), Hawaiian (하와이안버거), Double Bacon Cheese (더블베이컨치즈버거), Mushroom (머쉬룸버거), and Greedy (탐욕버거).

For those who are yearning for some unconventional choices, the restaurant also offer a variety of ground meats including chicken in their Bas Chicken (바스치킨버거) and Skippy Chicken burger, and shrimp in Wasabi-Mayo Shrimp burger (와사비-마요 쉬림프 버거). Each burger can be served individually or upgraded to a set for extra 3,500 KRW.

    Juicy Hawaiian Burger

While the hit and the signature here is the Bas Burger, which is loaded with Bas’s special sauce, cheddar, lettuce, onion, and tomato, I always opt for the juicer and flavorful Hawaiian Burger, where the succulent taste of onion and tomato is replaced by pineapple, and bacon is also added to provide crispy texture and savoriness.

Bas Burger’s Sole Non-burger Selection – Guacamole Dog

On one occasion, I tried their sole non-burger selection – Guacamole Dog (과카몰리도그), which is a hotdog topped with tartar sauce, guacamole sauce, grilled jalapeños, and bacon bits. It was surprisingly tasty and I loved it! The bun was soft. The sausage was crunchy from the outside and well grilled (or steamed?). Every bite with a mingle with the creamy guacamole was bursting with flavor, and I enjoyed it a lot!

Besides its delicious burgers and hotdog, the menu also features a wild choice of sides and drinks to complete the meal with. The crispy and golden fries are a popular choice, and the milkshakes, made with real ice cream, are the perfect treat everyone is willing to go for, even on a cold day.

Or if you feel the need to add a little green and healthier bit on the table, pick out a bowl of bacon salad – big or small. It can never go wrong with your burger option!

    Refillable Potato Chips for Free!

One of my favorite things about Bas Burger is that they prepare loads of freshly fried potato chips to give out to the customers daily, free of charge. And they are extremely scrumptious!

    Refillable Potato Chips

Whether you are dining in or taking it out, after placing your order, a form of made-out-of-paper container will be handed out to you for the as-much-as-you-can-take amount of chips. If you are eating at the venue, it’s even refillable!

    Writer’s Note

I do have specific preferences when it comes to burgers. I am not a fan of sesame seeds sprinkling bun and there is none at the Bas Burger: that’s the first thing I love about it. At Bas Burger, the texture of the bun they use is up to my favorite level: not too dry and not too steamed – the quality I have seldom encountered in a burger place in Korea. About the beef patty, it is cooked well as the flavors and juices are sealed within. These are the combinations I trust and always come back for more.

However, please note that all the experiences I had at the Bas Burger I have only attained from their branch in Yeoksam. Hopefully, I can get to try their creations in other different locations soon to see if they are up to the same level of satisfaction 🙂
